Sterling silver brooch by Kalevala Koru, Finland, featuring the historic Saint John’s Arms motif, also known as “Hannunvaakuna.” This protective symbol has roots in prehistoric Finnish ornaments and was reintroduced by designer Germund Paaer in 1935-1938 as part of the Kalevala Epic line, which continues to this day.
The brooch is stamped with Finnish national hallmarks, kk for Kalevala Koru, 925 for sterling silver, and H8 for the year 1985 when it was produced.
